SAFETY TIPS
Most air conditioning systems in use today contain Freon®, otherwise known as Refrigerant-12 (R-12). Depressurized R-12 will evaporate (boil) at -21.7° F. when released into the atmosphere. This will freeze all surfaces, including your skin and eyes, upon contact. Even if you avoid R-12 frostbite or blindness, it can cause suffocation if leaked into an enclosed area; R-12 is odorless and heavier than air. Furthermore, this refrigerant degenerates into a poisonous phosgene gas if exposed to flame. Finally, R-12 is harmful to the atmosphere since it destroys the ozone layer.Clearly, Freon® is a dangerous chemical if not handled properly. FOR ALL OF THE ABOVE REASONS, DO NOT PERFORM ANY AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM MAINTENANCE OR REPAIR WORK YOURSELF. TAKE YOUR CAR TO A PROFESSIONAL AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN WHO HAS THE APPROPRIATE SKILLS AND TOOLS TO SERVICE YOUR AUTOMOBILE.
